Andrew McCarthy on the Arab Spring
Andrew McCarthy takes a sober look at the supposed Arab Spring. You know, the one Obama egged-on with his fevered rhetoric, like there is "something in our souls that cries out for freedom".

Australian Defence Force disciplines Reserve Intelligence Officer for discussing Islam
More of Bernard Gaynor at:The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has charged an Army Reserve Intelligence Officer, Bernard Gaynor, for discussing links between Islam and terrorist activity.
The charges were laid today, despite an internal investigation by the ADF’s Investigative Service finding that there was no basis for disciplinary action.
Mr Gaynor says that the charges are proof that political correctness is hampering the ADF's ability to fight against Islamic violence.
"It is outrageous that the Australian Defence Force is charging me for discussing Islam," Mr Gaynor said.
"In the last week, ASIO has confirmed hundreds of Muslim Australians are joining violent Islamic groups in Syria and a radical Australian Islamic cleric has been linked to the Boston bombers."
"Yet the Australian Defence Force is sending a message that intelligence officers cannot discuss Islam in any way, shape or form, unless they pass judgment that it is a nice, peaceful religion."
"How the hell are you supposed to have an objective view of Islam if you are not allowed to examine links between Islamic beliefs and terrorist activity?"
"This kind of stupidity will lead to a misunderstanding of why threat groups targeting the Australian Army conduct violent activity and, at worst, could result in the death of Australian soldiers."
"It also explains the logical inconsistency between fighting a war against people who espouse violent Islamic beliefs while at the same time having an immigration policy that allows people with the same ideology to settle into Australia."
"It begs the question: what, exactly, have Aussie Diggers been shedding their blood in Afghanistan for over the past decade?" ...

Suspicious fire destroys historic Sydney church
The 98 year-old Dulwich Hill, Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Sydney, Australia was destroyed by fire last night.
Video from Vlad Tepes. Photos below (more at ADL).
Transcript:

Given the church's location, and recent events in Boston, you might be tempted to join the dots, but that's just speculation at this stage.

Father Dave Smith talks about a fire in Dulwich Hill that gutted the 98 year-old Holy Trinity Anglican church.
Q: Father Dave ... can you just tell us what sparked the fire?
A: We don't have a clue, I think the police will hopefully come up with something but ironically I only got to bed just before the thing went up at just before 4am. And everything was very quiet, and these things don't tend to go up by themselves. So it's suspicious.

Sheik Feiz Mohammad:
Feiz Mohammad (born 1970/1971) is an Australian Muslim preacher of Lebanese descent and formerly the head of the Global Islamic Youth Centre in Liverpool, a suburb of Sydney. He was featured on a British television documentary called Undercover Mosque...
... in one DVD, Mohammed said that children should be encouraged to become jihadists: "We want to have children and offer them as soldiers defending Islam... Teach them this: there is nothing more beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid. Put in their soft, tender hearts the zeal of jihad and a love of martyrdom." Elsewhere, he said, "Jews are pigs that will be killed at the end of the world" ...
He has since apologized in an interview for referring to Jews as pigs, and said that his reference to jihad was misunderstood.
Boston bombings - official FBI suspects
Apparently none of the pictures I posted yesterday are suspects. Here are two official FBI suspects. These guys look whiter than yesterday's suspects.

Boston bombings
It's hard to keep up, but here are some key facts:
A Saudi national on a student visa was tackled on suspicion at the scene. It turns out his familial clan is rife with members of Al-Qaeda. He was investigated but is no longer a suspect, yet is being deported on national security grounds. Around the same time a meeting between John Kerry and the Saudis was suddenly closed to the press. (Ironically, Obama recently loosened the checks on incoming Saudis).
Among some interesting photos (below) are some men of Middle Eastern appearance.
An Al-Qaeda theorist (Abu Musab al-Suri) was released in 2012 by Syria as a warning to the USA about the consequences of turning their backs on President Assad. The May 2012 edition of Al-Qaeda’s English language screed “Inspire,” contains an essay claimed to have been penned by al-Suri which calls for bombing "in the heart of America ... such as crowded sports arenas, annual social events, large international exhibitions, crowded marketplaces, sky-scrapers, crowded buildings etc."
Al Qaeda Bomb-Making Suggestion, 2010: “Pressurized cooker is the most effective method”, as was used in these bombs.
I'm not sure if the following people are officially suspects or not ...

For more photos of possible suspects see here, here and here.

If one car maker folds, the others will fall

‘If one car maker folds, the others will fall’
We need to take the pressure off our rising dollar by reducing the demand for Australia dollars i.e. we need to curb the mining industry, foreign ownership, foreign students, foreign investment, etc. And we need some form of protectionism to give our car manufacturers a local market too. Or something like that.
But no mainstream political party dares to step outside the demented ideology of free trade. Even conservative journalists like Andrew Bolt have nothing to say but stop subsidising a dying industry. He wants us all to work down a mine.
We were able to export cars until the mining boom drove the dollar up. The high dollar is also hurting food exports and the tourism industry.
File under: there's nothing free about free-trade when a small country (Australia) is controlled by the huge demand from a large country (China).
‘If one car maker folds, the others will fall’
We need to retain a broad range of manufacturing for national security purposes, and to give our workers a range of careers to choose from. So we need to make engineering a viable career, but we can't do that if the car industry dies.Former Nissan Australia head Ivan Deveson believes that if one car manufacturer in Australia shuts down, the other two will follow.
In a stark warning for Australia’s remaining car makers, Ford, Toyota and General Motors Holden, Mr Deveson said it was “very hard” to disagree with the view of former Ford CEO Jacques Nasser that the Australian car industry was financially vulnerable and likely to collapse.
Mr Deveson, who worked in the automotive industry for 37 years in five different countries, said the industry would shut down unless it can restart exports, which have been hit hard by the rising dollar.
Analysts are concerned Ford will stop manufacturing after 2016, sending many parts suppliers broke, fears amplified by Mr Nasser, who said this week he didn’t think the industry would survive a global production glut.
“There’s no doubt with the three of them, if one was to fold up, the impact of the supplier industry would be devastating and probably cause the other two to pack their bags,” Mr Deveson said.
